shalom
Shalom Birthing Centre, founded by Mavis Orton in 1992. This provides childbirth services for the communities of Antipolo and surrounding areas.
The centre provides a safe, loving and dignified environment for women to give birth whilst availing the best clinical services at a minimal cost.
These services include screening, pre- and post-natal care, ultrasounds, vitamins and supplements. The BWA donates cash to pay for 24 births a year. These are for indigent families and ensure that their bill of care is zero. This is administered through The Mavis Orton Fund. The Mum's and Fathers-to-be who qualify for the fund, receive these services throughout the pregnancy.
The centre is run by a team of dedicated local midwives and staff, who additionally host visiting international health care providers and nursing students who come there to complete their course with on-job training and experience.
We also provide each baby and Mum with a hamper in the form of a baby bath, filled with baby care and postnatal products as well as clothes and a blanket. We deliver these to Shalom after a Mavis Fund Baby has been born, ready to be passed on to the family.

Cashew
Cashew Early Years offers free pre-school education to children living in the Payatas and Montalban landfills. They are taught by professionally qualified teachers five days a week plus receive their own set of books and other school materials. They also get a free healthy meal each day, which is sometimes the only meal that they might eat. People in these poor communities prefer to send their child to work in the landfill or to scavenge rather than attend school. If not the dumpsite, then parents would prefer for their child to work because above all else, the priority is to put food on the table, especially for younger siblings.
Cashew support is limited to 2 years because, at this time, each child will be ready to progress to Elementary School, where our former Cashew students are renowned for their brilliance and eagerness to learn.
Cashew Early Years School had to temporarily close in 2017 due to a funding shortage and land ownership issues. However, from June 2018 the school opened again in its new location in Rodriguez, Rizal welcoming up to 100 children. In November 2019, with the support of sponsors and donors, the school opened a newly built one-story building that could eventually accommodate 200 students every day
