Shalom Birthing Centre, founded by Mavis Orton in 1992. This provides childbirth services for the communities of Antipolo and surrounding areas. The centre provides a safe, loving and dignified environment for women to give birth whilst availing the best clinical services at a minimal cost. These services include screening, pre- and post-natal care, ultrasounds, vitamins and supplements. The BWA donates cash to pay for 36 births a year. These are for indigent families and ensure that their bill of care is zero. This is administered through The Mavis Orton Fund. The Mum's and Fathers-to-be who qualify for the fund, receive these services throughout the pregnancy. We also provide each baby and Mum with a hamper in the form of a baby bath, filled with baby care and postnatal products as well as clothes and a blanket. We deliver these to Shalom after a Mavis Fund Baby has been born, ready to be passed on to the family.
The centre is run by a team of dedicated local midwives and staff, who additionally host visiting international health care providers and nursing students who come there to complete their course with on-job training and experience.
